This is posted on Divinity School, University of Edinburgh website:
As part of the events designed to mark the centenary of the historic World Missionary Conference held at Edinburgh in 1910, the School of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh in association with the Langham Partnership is offering a special PhD scholarship at the University of Edinburgh, starting in September 2010.
Langham Partnership is a registered Christian charity in the evangelical tradition, which grows out of the international ministry of Rev. Dr John Stott. Over the past 30 years it has helped to sponsor almost 300 scholars to complete PhD degrees, and currently supports 38 students in the UK and Europe who are on PhD programmes. Former scholars work in a range of Christian ministries, including college and seminary Principals and Presidents, Academic Deans, Bishops, and leaders of Christian agencies. Funds for the scholarship scheme come from the giving of Christian individuals, churches and trusts. Further details about the work of the charity, and how donations can be made towards its work, can be found on the Scholarship pages of the Langham Partnership website www.langhampartnership.org
The work of the Langham Partnership scholarship programme is focused on the Majority (Developing) World, and the Edinburgh 1910 Centenary PhD Scholarship is intended to benefit students from there. Suitably qualified postgraduate theology research students from the Majority (Developing) World are invited to apply. The World Missionary Conference in 1910 anticipated the predominant role which church leaders from the South would play in the future, and this scheme is therefore an appropriate way of marking its centenary. The Scholarship is part of a commitment by the University of Edinburgh School of Divinity and Langham Partnership, to engage in this dialogue with churches in the Developing World (Majority), and assist with the training of strategic church leaders from there.
The Edinburgh 1910 Centenary PhD Scholarship of up to £14,000 per annum will cover university fees, and make a small contribution towards maintenance costs. Starting in September 2010, the PhD sponsorship is awarded for up to 3 years, depending on satisfactory progression. It is open to applicants from across the theological disciplines of biblical studies, theology, ethics, church history, and world Christianity.
Applicants should apply separately to the University of Edinburgh and the Langham Partnership, and on each application indicate clearly that they intend to apply for the Edinburgh / Langham Partnership ‘Edinburgh 1910 Centenary Scholarship’. Specific enquiries can be addressed by email to scholarships.lpuki@langhampartnership.org. A form for the Langham Partnership Scholarship scheme, and the eligibility criterion, can be found on the scholarship pages of the Langham Partnership UK website www.langhampartnership.org. For application to the University of Edinburgh follow the apply online link below.
The closing date for applications is 30th November 2009.
