Excerpts from Journal for the Study of the New Testament 2008; 30; 84

Benjamin Schliesser, Abraham’s Faith in Romans 4: Paul’s Concept of Faith in Light of the History of Reception of Genesis 15:6

“…… He counters the Christological interpretation that Abraham’s faithfulness is parallel to Christ’s faithfulness (pistis Iesou is not subjective) and challenges narrative approaches that see an underlying scriptural framework behind Paul’s exegesis. It is a pity that he was not able to interact with Watson’s Paul and the Hermeneutics of Faith (though it is cited in the bibliography), which would have been interesting."Steve Moyise

Andrie du Toit, Focusing on Paul: Persuasion and Theological Design in Romans and Galatians

“……, there is particular (South African) attention to discourse analysis……The socio-economics of Christians in Rome is discussed in some detail, and their Jewish origins and contacts, and their house-churches. Another longer piece, on the rhetoric of persuasion in Rom. 1.1-17, is followed by detailed analyses of 1.3-4, and then of the many forensic metaphors in Romans……" F. Gerald Downing

A. Andrew Das, Solving the Romans Debate

“…… On Rom. 16, he argues that the presence of Priscilla and other specialist Jewish missionaries to Gentiles would not constitute a substantively mixed congregation. He also appeals to Thorsteinsson’s argument that those greeted in Rom. 16 are not among the hearers because they are greeted in the third person. Das then argues, against Nanos, that Rom. 14–15 does not fit hearers still in synagogues.…… Finally, he applies his conclusions to a reading of 7.7-25 and 11.25-26……"Peter Oakes
